You’re not being slick if you try to growl when revving the engine. But if you notice a low coolant level, then it’s because there’s a leak, and your water pump might be the guilty party. A pump on the engine circulates the coolant through the radiator, engine, and heater and keeps your engine running at the proper temperatureand not overheatingregardless of the outside. Maybe you didn’t spot all those leaks under your car. But if you can tell that the leak is coolant, then it’s.well.a coolant issue, which means the water pump may have a leak. If you’re not familiar with the various liquids in your car, then a leak can be anything. You just love leaks from your car, don’t you? Yeah. When it fails, the ability to cool the engine might also fail, and then you have an overheated engine. Car Detailing and Show & Shine Prep sponsored by Autogeek.Did you really need that spelled out? I added on the aluminum water pump pully afterwards as the one I had cracked after the install (I'm sure I over-tightened the pully retaining bolts when I put everything back together and caused it but it was 15 years old anyway and I like aluminum better anyhow. One final note - I bought the whole overhaul kit and caboodle for under 400 bucks. There are a few other possible sources of the leak but this is the vast majority and should help you discover the leak pretty quick. if it is leaking from here change out thermostat, gasket and housing.Ħ) Finally - the radiator itself could be leaking - they're plastic/aluminum I believe so are anything but leak proof. What would make my 98 Chevy Blazer overheat all the time we replaced the water pump and the intake gasket. You should see coolant leaking from there.

Anyhow - here's what I'd suggest:ġ) check all of your hoses/hose clamps including the one that goes from the radiator to the expansion tank under the plastic coverĢ) check the expansion tank iself for cracks and leaks: a) at the bottom where the temp sensor is 'screwed in' - to make sure it's not leaking and b) Make sure your expansion tank doesn't have a micro crack - leak c) make sure the expansion tank is not leaking from the bleed screw.ģ) check the coolant level sensor - located on the passenger side of the radiator about two thirds of the way 'up' - to ensure it's not leaking from the sensor plug.Ĥ) check the thermostat housing for leak - if its not aluminum I'd change it out along with the thermostat just to eliminate this possibility. I have 98 chevy S-10 Blazer- over heating-replaced water pump. OBTW - I had leaks after the 'first attempt' and found that I had a hose leaking from a clamp that wasn't tight enough. Having just overhauled my e36 m3 (99 convertible) cooling system I'd offer the following - nothing new but a process of elimination to go thru to find the culprit.
